Animal experiment the main contributor to scietific breakthrough sounds to me very much like rhetoric. At least to me it isn't irreplaceable; in-vitro culture, molecular biology, computational analysis and more importantly ethical human phase trial, are among the promising candidates to outdo animal experiment in terms of scientific output.
No one can deny WE killed too much animals in lab. Imagine you have a FULL fridge of rabbit. For god's sake, ONE FULL FRIDGE. Now you know why lab is no-entry zone.
Furthermore, human trial is thus more ethical than animal experiment. One to strictly comply GCP and subject's consent, in the other hand animal in cage absolutely have no mean of choice.
